The New Bulgarian University, in partnership with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie in Central and Eastern Europe (AUF-ECO) and the French Institute of Bulgaria, is pleased to announce the second edition of the international conference Changing Cities: Challenges, Predictions, Perspectives.
The event will take place in Sofia on June 18–19, 2026, bringing together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss contemporary urban transformations through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches.
Conference Themes include (but are not limited to):
- Transformations in urban space organization and planning
- Demographic shifts and the demography of contemporary cities
- Urban governance and metropolitan management strategies
- Socio-economic impacts of urban transformations
- Evolving relations between citizens and their cities, and between urban and rural areas
- The redefinition of "small towns" both within and alongside major urban agglomerations
- Scenarios for urban reinvention, balancing heritage, current challenges, and future visions

- Deadline for proposals: November 30, 2025
